The Journey Continues: An Introduction (Take 2)

Hi, I'm Keishia. I have never kept a consistent journal, except when I was a first year student at NYU's Tisch School of the Arts. I'm hoping this blog will keep me to task.

Even though I don't write journal entries every day,  do enjoy writing.  Like many people, I wrote stories as a child and drew pictures. As I grew up, I still liked writing. I also treasured traveling, and theatre, and reading and watching TV & movies. These interests lead to a scholarship that enabled me to do all of these things and so much more.

I met many fascinating people. I saw many amazing places. I had many valuable experiences. In 1998, I graduated with honors and landed a job as an editorial assistant with a small tech start up that was going through the IPO process. It was eventually bought by NBCUniversal. I also worked for a large NYC publisher in their internet department.

Simultaneously, I was going through a personal great awakening. Times Square Church became my second home. I felt the presence of God moving through the preaching, which is truthful and hard hitting. I loved the people. I loved the fact that so many people from different backgrounds worshipped together--young, old, poor, rich and every color of humanity's rainbow.  This was a far cry from what I experienced as a teen in the suburban south, but it seemed a lot like a picture of what heaven will be like.

Soon a door opened to work as an online editor for the American Bible Society. I walked through it and enjoyed the opportunity to write about the topics that mattered most to me.

I also got married to a really wonderful man, and God blessed us with an intelligent and beautiful little girl. We moved from New York to the suburbs of Atlanta. Soon our energetic and joyful son was born. And 20 months ago, we had another precious and precocious girl.

During this time, I have become a fulltime mom and home educator.  I've taken a long break--almost ten years--from writing stories... until recently. I was looking for writing contests for my eldest daughter and realized that I was living vicariously through her.

I. had. become. one. of. those. moms.

In an effort to live more authentically, I have decided to use whatever talent God has given me-- and fully enjoy the journey. Hope you'll join me!
